Default rebuilt transmission vs used transmission

hi my 2002 accord transmission was built back in august, due to hard slipping/jerk. The mechanic told me he will rebuild it for $1300 and ever since i got the car it drives much better than before. My question is that how do i know he really rebuilt it instead of just putting a used transmission with a high km instead? I do have warranty and just curious.

I don't believe there is any way to confirm the difference between used and rebuilt (or better still, remanufactured). Typically a good remanufactured transmission comes with a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty.

if he did put a used one inside instead of rebuilding my previous one, did i get ripped off?

For $1,300, no probably not; a good remanufactured unit for these cars typically runs between $1,800 and $2,500, plus labor; a grand total would be roughly $3,000.

how much does it usually cost for a mechanic for him self to rebuild a transmission? i just feel my transmission wasn't rebuilt and a used one was pulled from the junk yard and tested to see if it works. I am just preparing my self for if there is any problem in the future.

Difficult call. The price for used transmissions are all over the map and vary by junk yard, geographic region, and car.

Ditto locally rebuilt transmissions. The price will vary based upon the components used in the rebuild as well as the local labor rates in your area.

Personally, I don't trust either "used" or "rebuilt" transmissions; both are hit and miss. The ONLY replacement transmissions I trust are remanufactured, and then, only from shops with good reputations.
