Transmission Rebuild Time!
Hello HAF, My name is Darshan and I own a 2001 Honda Accord LX 2.3 AUTO. MY car has 199,000 miles on it with the original transmission. The transmission shifts horribly and has done so for the last 15-20 thousand miles. You have to let of the gas a little in between shifts so it doesn't GO BANG. Anyways I am about to have a shop rebuild the transmission for $1200. What needs to be done to the transmission to have it rebuilt properly. I don't want to transmission shop to cut any corners while doing the procedure. Any advice would be really appreciated. Thank you.

just make sure you get a good warranty on it, and meeting the conditions of it usually require documented fluid changes. 1200 bucks is a little on the high side, you could probably get a low mile salvage yard unit and have it installed for half that.

And to know "why" they fail is key....IMHO-

Fix the future failure.

Thanks for all of the replies. I am going to hold off on the rebuild for another week to see if I can find a better deal. Thanks Dr. Drivability for that article. I am considering buying the Sonnex product and having the shop install them when they do the rebuild. Is that a good idea? I just want to get at least another 100,000 miles out of the rebuilt transmission. How long will a rebuilt transmission last?
