Default Valve Lifters

Hello all Honda Accord fans!

I am not to brainy on the engine internal of the Accord, but like others know/experience. On my 97 LX 4 cyl ,Auto, when it is first started it is loud because of the valves or lifters or a combination, correct? To me it sounds somewhat bad for the engine, am I a worry wart or is it legit? So would switching to synthetic help? How would I go about doing this? And if so, Id like to use Penzoil Platnium, but I see the Super Tech stuff for a bit cheaper...but...well you get what you pay for.

Thank You All

valves/lifter noise is probably best described as a "chatter" or "rattle" and can be heard when the car is running.... a simple valve adjustment should clear up most of that and keeping your oil changed every 3k miles helps too....

I would be checking the quality of the oil filter first, some of the check valves used are worthless, it makes it so the filter has to be refilled before oil gets to any other part of the engine.

How would I go about doing that? Is it easy? My dad is more mechanically inclined then me as he worked on all his old Mopars like Cudas n' Dusters. I change the oil every 3k miles religiously.
One thing though...is that it seems worse than before. This time I used a Fram Tough Guard filter, and usually I use the Fram TRT filter...so I think that may have to do with it. When I change the oil in about 300 miles I may upgrade to Penzoils High Mileage oil....hopefully it isnt just wasting money.
