00' coupe 3.0 trans prob
i have a question for you guys, in my 00 accord coupe with 3.0 almost everytime you shift from park to reverse or d4 you have to push the brake and hold it hard or pump it in order to disengage the lock to allow gear selection. my question is what type of shift solenoid would cause this, what is the correct term for this part and is it easily located? i am very mechanically inclined and have built engines and messed with manual transmissions. this is my first dealing with an auto tranny and i would love to fix it. it is my understanding that if i turn the key to the on position put my foot on the brake and try and shift from park to d4 or R then i should hear the shift solenoid click correct? thanks for your help

First off, a 2000 is newer than what I've worked on. Usually that is call the "interlock" switch. In my auto trans honda's, it has been located in the console right by the lever. Yes, in the auto trans cars I have I can hear it click when I push the brake pedal....have you had any other repairs done....just a guess, if the car knows the pedal is pressed by the brakelite switch could there be an issue there. Or if things get spilled in the shift console then that could gum up the switch. Sorry for not being able to give better info. I'm sure some of the experts will chime in with better info.

yes, i just disassembled the interior to clean the carpets and i removed the center console to clean and saw the big white "interlock switch" i will inspect it further to check for dirt or loose wires. anybody have a clue how much these cost brand new or if there is a procedure for testing this part? does one from a similar year auto tranny in a sedan 4 cylinder interchange, if so i have the hookup on a few.

Clean and lube the switch....in my years, it is very rare they go bad without help. Sticking with the gens, something from 98 to ~01 should work. You can look online at some place like majestic honda and check the p/n for the different year models to be sure.
