03 accord, fuel cap cable
Our 2003 accord ex, fuel door did not open when my wife went to get gas today. Luckily the station was in front of a honda dealership and it was after 5:00. The tech said our cable was not opening the fuel door. He did just undo the cable so now our door does not latch closed. My question, is this a farily easy repair or should I let them do it? It was late and Friday, but the guys gave a us an estimate for repairs. Of course parts cheap, labor high. I consider myself pretty mechanically inclined and do have access to a lift. Any comments greatly appreciated. I have not looked at my haynes manual yet to see how detailed this repair is. Thanks again, Wayne.

Before trying to replace the cable you may want to try freeing up the cable using something like PB Blaster where the wire is exposed near the release inside of you car and by the fuel cap lid. It is simple enough to spray that on there to see if it can be freed up.
If it is still stuck, you can probably handle replacing that cable. It looks like the cable for the trunk and the fuel door are one part.
You would likely have to attach the new cable up by the front seat, then route the new cable along the way using the old cable as your guide. I am not sure how much you have to take off to route that cable. You will have to remove interior parts to get under the carpet and the back seat.
Definitely get a manual to give you the specifics. It will help a lot.
There is a link in the common diy thread on top of the gen tech help forum for a shop manual under the 7th gen accord that you can download. The procedure is under exterior, trunk lid, then Trunk Lid Opener Cable/Fuel Door Opener Cable Replacement (4D).
If you plan on doing DIY work, you might want to buy a shop manual. I got one for my tsx from automanualsource.com for $21.99 and it is definitely worth it. I like the layout better than the free manual you can download.
