Driving to work today my emissions light came on out of nowhere. First thing I did was shut off the engine, remove and replace the gas cap with no luck. I have an OBDII scanner at home that I'm going to check it with. Any advice on what it could be?

Also, I'm going to be going on vacation tommorow. Will it be ok to drive 500 miles round trip? Car is running fine - just has that light on.

If it's an emissions issue then usually it's fine/safe to drive but it can lower your fuel economy. As for wild guesses I'm going with O2 sensor. Either way post the code and we can dig into it.

 

I'm thinking it might be an O2 or something. Ever since I got the car used I've had that "rotten egg" smell every now and then under hard acceleration. This is the first time I got the light though. My mileage to this point has been fine though. I'll grab the codes later when I get home.
