Like someone hit it with a cutting torch? If you mean that the bulb is dead, you have to just deal with the tight space ..... maybe there is something that you can remove to help with access. On my 2000 V6, the battery could be moved to allow space to the driver's side high beam. On the Scion, the coolant overflow gets removed to get to the driver's side highbeam. Also, a Z-driver can help loosen the screws that hold the base of the bulb. They don't get removed and really aren't supposed to be touched, but loosening them 1/8 of a turn helps get the bulbs in and out.

From what I've heard, the 7th gen (2003-2007) headlights bulbs are one tough cookie to replace. Since you just bought it, a good investment would be a Haynes service manual.

Yes, because high beams are for driving on dark roads alone at night. You can drive with one headlight, yes? Or not drive at night, yes? You can get ticketed for failing to turnoff your high beams.

why don't you go to the store now and pick up a bulb... put it in and be on your merry way?

the screws aren't meant to come out. They are the fixture, just that loosening them a bit makes the bulb change easier. You just have to work on it for a while.
