04 Honda Accord Power Steering Prob 6 cyl
I have a 2004 Honda Accord 6 cylinder. I bought the car used, and drove it from Utah to Texas with no problems. Arriving in Texas, the Power Steering started to whine. It was still working fine but the whine was causing soncern. I have replaced the pump 3 times in the last 3 months. THe first two did not fix the noise. Then the power steering went out, so at the advice of a mechanic, i replaced it again. Now it whines intermittenly but i have no Power Steering. During this time, i took it to a dealer who put it on a rack and told me the Rack and Pinion was leaking and wanted a pretty penny to replace. I took it to me country mechanic who put it on the rack and said it was not leaking. So, here i am at a loss as to what to try. Again, 3 pumps, had steering throught the first two, then lost the steering completely, put a 3rd pump on, still no steering. It doesnt even seem like it is getting fluid to the pump fromthe reservoir. And after driving just around the block the pump is extremenly hot to touch. Any help or direction would be most appreciated
Thanks,
Matthew
Thanks,
Matthew
Power steering whine is usually result of air entering the PS fluid on suction side inlet to the compressor. There is a single oring that seals the suction inlet fitting to the compressor. Replace the oring (get from Honda parts).
