Based on your car, I am guessing that you are located somewhere outside of the US.

I don't have a shop manual for 04 US acccord, but have one of an 03-08 Acura TSX.

The Acura has a gauge circuit check, so maybe the accord has the same test.

1.Push and hold the trip/reset button.
2.Turn the headlights ON
3.Turn the ignition switch ON (II position)
4.Within 5 seconds, turn the headlights OFF, then ON, and OFF again
5.Within 5 seconds, release the trip/reset button, and then push and release the button three times repeatedly.

I think that the lights will blink, needles will move, as it goes through the checks. When it is done, the tripometer will read all 8s (gauge checked ok), or say error 1, 2, or 3.

This may not work on your accord, but it is worth a shot.

The USA TSX is the same as the UK/Europe Accord for that range of years. So maybe(?) that stuff is the same on his wagon.

In the TSX manual it says error 2 is a malfunction in the communication line between the gauge control module and the body-controller area network (Multplex unit, I think).

I would download the 03-08 Acura TSX shop manual from the spooner link I posted in the Online manuals thread in the DIY section, so you can see what I am talking about.

The next testing procedure is under Accessories and Equipment, Multiplex Integrated Control System pdf. The diagnosis starts on the bottom page 15 under B-CAN SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS TEST MODE 1 (witout HDS) section. You short the connector shown and count the dome light flashes to get the code.

These troubleshooting procedures are ridiculous IMO.

It may end up that you need a new gauge control module that would need to be programmed by a dealership.
