You can clear the code yourself. On your 1998 you go to the right-side dashboard fusebox (near door hinges). Pull fuse #13 for 20 seconds or so.
If you clear the code & let it come back, then you erase any old leftovercodes so they don't confuse you.

Sweet. I'll do that tonight and see if it comes on again. Is there a technical name for the computer code reader? I don't think they'll understand me if I use hand gestures and call it a thingiemagoo....

Simple ones are called "OBD-2 Code Readers". About the size of a large calculator, with a wire that plugs into the OBD-2 port near driver's left knee. That's usually what the parts-store-guy will take to the parking lot & plug into your car.
More expensive & powerful ones can also display data from the car, like injector duty cycle or engine temperature or fuel trim, etc...
