I have a 1999 4cyl ULEV engine, not VTEC. The check engine light came on today and with my foot on the gas holding at 40mph the carslowed down on its ownfor a moment and dropped to 30. After that when I accelerated it did so roughly and then was ok. The light is still on so I went to Autozone and scanned the computer.

I got the following code:
P1259 Manufacturer Contrl. Fuel Air Metering

Any suggestions?

 

You sure it's non vtec? P1259 is a vtec malfunction code. The first thing I would check is the oil level.

 

You are right!It's a ULEV VTEC. I could only find info on the VTEC message for the 1259 code but the scanner printout from autozone says "P1259 manufacturer Contrl. Fuel Air Metering"

Anything above P0999 is different for each car maker. So you have to be skeptical of the description from someplace like AutoZone.

If your oil seems OK, the screen at the VTEC spool valve might be clogged & needs cleaning. Or maybe the wiring for the VTEC oil pressure switch is loose?
