Default 1989 auto to manual?

I have a 1989 Honda Accord (automatic) the reverse doesnt work. would it be cheap to swap it to manual or keep automatic?

I moved your post out to it's own thread, to avoid confusion with the other one.

The cheapest solution would be to either have your current transmission fixed or to replace it with another automatic. The best solution (from my perspective) would be to swap the tranny for a manual, however, that "swap" entails a considerable amount of money, work, and patience to pull off.

Yes, sooner or later, however, a decent rebuild should last an easy 100,000 miles; how much longer to you plan on keeping your car?

Rebuild = more $

Junkyard used transmission = probability of another failure

Depends on what you mean by "another automatic".

I'm a big fan of having 3 pedals on the floor, so my choice would be manual conversion. But it's not MY car or MY money.

honestly, I would go for a rebuild. I can post all the schematics you need for the job, and replacement clutches are dirt cheap. Go to harbor freight and autozone and buy the tools you need and you can rebuild it in your garage.

I too am a fan of the three-pedal setup, however, I believe it is better/cheaper to swap cars than it is to try and retrofit a manual into a car originally built as an automatic.
