90 accord ex highbeams wont stay on
Hello folks, just bought myself a 90 accord due to its known bulletproofness.

I'm having one issue I would like to resolve as its driving me nuts:

The highbeams don't stay on! I pull the stalk on the dimmer switch/headlight switch and the high beams turn on, but as as I release they turn off.

I can flash the high beams by pulling and releasing the stalk/switch but they just won't stay on. I already changed the dimmer/headlight switch at the steering wheel, but the problem still persists.

Please help thank you!

That sounds like the switch itself is not working correctly..call Honda and ask if that could be your delima..one of my customers had that problem a couple of years ago and he replaced it and wolaa! problem solved..

Thanks for your reply which switch are you referring to? I changed the dimmer switch (stalk/headlight switch) three times, and they all do the same thing. Is there another switch?

It sounds like the "switch" is not locking into high beams.

Check to be sure the plastic cover(s) around the column/switch stalk are not preventing the lever from moving far enough to lock the switch into high beams.

hello thanks for the reply, i have removed the covers for the steering column, and all three switches i have tried fully engage when pulling back , the high beams do work as they do the whole "passing" flash, when i pull ti all the way all the switches do the click, the higbeams come on if i hold it pulled, but as soon as i let go it falls back into the low beams.

Normally this sounds like the combination switch. Since you already tried 3 different switches, the issue may be due to the dimmer relay (located in the under-hood fuse/relay box). The dimmer relay provides the ground source to the high beams.

Toronto Honda can possibly get it, even though it is discontinued. They check through their distribution network.

Toronto Honda Parts - RELAY ASSY., RUNNING LIGHT (RZ-0089) (MITSUBA)

You can also just resolder the solder joint on your existing unit's circuit board.
