If the "s" light is lit constantly, usually indicates a problem with the TCU. if it blinks, pull the code and post it here.

I do not think it is an issue with the VSS ,,
Also as mentioned ,, i would not condemn anything till properly diagnosing the system,,, we do not even know if there is anything wrong or it is just the different TCM causing the S lite to stay on,,

there could be more than 1 reason why s lite stays on,,

short in red wire between TCM and S switch

a bad S switch itself

bad shift position indicator

a short to power on green wire between TCM and the gauge

and last but not least a faulty TCM....

like i said earlier, if you are concerned about the S lite staying on,, First thing i would do is install the PROPER TCM the vehicle calls for ..than if lite is still on let me know we can trouble shoot the S lite stays on all the time , system

well...

removed the VSS as suggested, cleaned and resurfaced contact area as specified in posted link.

reinstalled original TCM unit

STILL NO LUCK

"s" light on, won't shift out of 3rd gear.....

i'm looking at probably at least $100 to get even a used TCM from a salvage yard.

Do i have any other options?

AS far as a code goes, i'm pretty sure that when i did jumper the connector on pass. kick panel, the s light flashed, but i don't remember the number of times.

Ok, when i put the jumper in the blue connector on the pass side kick panel

turn the ignition to "on"

the CEL comes on and stays on, and of course the "S" light is on as well.

So, what does this mean? Thanks in advance, i appreciate everyone's help/advice so far.

it means that there is no code stored.........

when there is no code lite will stay on solid when SC ( service connector ) is jumped .

i can help you trouble shoot the S lite stays on all the time while driving.. but i will be honest with you ,without the proper TCM we could be chasing a ghost.........
like i said earlier ,, i would install the proper TCM your car calls for, clear the computer and see what happens .. and see what happens ..
also,, on your first post you wrote that the ( car shifts perfectly ),, but now you are saying it wont get out of third ???
