Hi Everyone,

First of all great forum. Im new to the forum and have a few questions.
My Speedometer stopped working about 6 months ago. Would work intermittently, then jump around, then stop etc. This happened regularly until it stopped completely. Then last week, I put the car in park and proceeded to put my window down and nothing. None of the window worked from my drivers side buttons, nor from any other buttons. In addition the rest of the gauges stopped working...gas, temperature, RPM gauges. Clock stopped working, and the car would not shift into drive, I needed to use the shift lock release. Also the cruise control stopped working. All this happened at once. I brought the car to Autozone to have the codes read and all that was read was P0501...VSS. Im at a loss as to what is wrong. The car has 280,000 miles and I am the original owner. Can any one offer some advice as to what is wrong? I am thinking I need a new ECM and VSS?????

I have a few questions. When you originally started having speedometer problems, did the check engine light turn on while driving? During this time, did the cruise control work?

Now the more recent problems seem more like a power or wiring problem. Have you checked your fuses?

 

Sounds like two issues:

1) Test the vss and replace if bad. This would cause the speedo and cruise issues.

2) Blown fuse. Check the underhood and underdash fuse panels. Are the brake lights working when you press the pedal?

could be way off here, but mine at one point had similar issues and i ended up finding that it was the alternator going bad intermittently. it some thing worth checking out

 

PA honda, the CEL would come on/off erratically also. I forgot what the code was when I checked it last year. I checked the fuses and all seem to be fine, but i will take a closer look at the fuses and see what I find.

FireFighter44 i also heard the same thing but Im not convinced yet that this is the problem, but I am not ruling it out yet.

PoorMan: the brake lights DO work when I press the pedal.
