Is the check engine light turning on? The 96 obd2 connector is behind the ashtray. Try to have codes read to possibly provide direction on troubleshooting.

Just realized you have a Civic. Ignore the location of the OBD2 connector. Do you have a scanner that can read any live data? See if you have a misfire counter for each cylinder.

What was the actual obd2 code(s) you read?

Since the engine runs fine after the car warms up, then items like the distributor and spark plugs can be ruled out, because you would have the problem all of the time.

Did you do any work on your car not long before the engine stalled? Any chance you filled up the gas tank right before this happened?
