Default 1998 Accord Coupe Starting and then Dying

Hi All,

I have a 1998 V6 Coupe with 113,000 miles and recently it has the annoying habit of losing power and the engine ceasing to run after starting. I then leave it for about 10/15 mins and then it starts normally. There is also a slight rattle when I accelerate as well, but I'm guessing this maybe a loose heatsheild.

I had it serviced in Jan 2010 so can't be any fuel/oil filters as they have been chnaged and I also have an aftermarket induction kit fitted but I have had this fitted for three years with no problems.

I'm guessing it might be a fuel sensor/air mass sensor and at worst case scenario may even be a head gasket that needs to be placed (which I would want).

Any thought's suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

can you get the car to stall by shaking the key while the engine is running?

Does it sputter and die, or just like someone shut off the key? I suspect fuel pressure. I am a Bronco Mechanic, and really have to admit I don't know how you test this on your year Honda. But there are certain physical (Physics) properties that are the same. Let us know how it goes.

Hi All,

It tends to start and then 5 seconds after abruptly stops. I checked all the electrics and battery and they are providing ample charge.

I must admit I am stumped as after this it then starts up and then it behaves as normal.

Also when I pull away quickly the handbrake light comes on and then goes out? I am starting to lose my patience a little with it and don't really want to get rid of it.

Thanks to all who have replied.
