Default 1998 Accord keeps dying when accelerator pressed

I have a 1998 Honda Accord DX. It was the car that we bought our oldest son when he started college. He passed away 11 years ago and we have kept it in running order and drive it occasionally. The check engine light came on and the message was a plugged EGR port. My youngest son now maintains the car. He watched a youtube video on how to clean the port. He followed the steps exactly but on reassembly the car will start but when you put your foot on the accelerator it immediately dies. We carefully checked everything over and all the lines are attached, and the sensors plugged in. I am looking for suggestions on what to do.

The original post was from a few years ago, so they may not respond with their solution.

If the car is stalling out when you push the accelerator, I'd probably first scan for codes and hopefully the PCM detected a problem to give you direction on the next step in troubleshooting.
