Default 1999 Accord Coupe Windscreen wiper mechanism

Hi

Theres some play in my windscreen wipers. Its more than likely some wear on the mechanism. Gonna take a look in the next day or so. Does anyone know if the mechanism is reachable from the bonnet? Or is it one of those dash out headaches?

Cheers

Yes, you can get to it from under the hood. You will have to remove the "cover" - black plastic piece - after removing the wiper arms.

Your Swindon-built car is a different car than the USA Accord. Like Poorman said, you get there by removing the plastic cowling just ahead of the windscreen.

The UK Accord Saloon was built in Swindon. The UK Coupe was built in the USA right hand drive and exported to the UK to be sold in Honda dealers. Its not treated as an import in any way or form. Bit of an oddity really! It shares 99% of the parts as the US version. I believe the wiper mechanism may be different as you are LHD as opposed to RHD!

Btw had the wiper linkage diagnosed today. Needs replacing! Dealer only part. I heard somewhere you could actually repair the linkage mechanism? Has anyone on here achieved this?

cheers

Doh... Now I remember someone told me that about the UK coupe before - I forgot about that.

Here in USA you can get certain parts for the linkage.
In the picture, if there's a number tag, you can supposedly buy the part from a dealer. Don't know if they stock everything separately in UK.

Thanks for this JimBlake. Unfortunately the Honda UK dealership only stock the entire mechanism (although without the motor at least) and even then it took quite a while to confirm the item is still in stock.

Price? £180, thats about $270. Pretty extortionate really!

That was until workmate told me he'd paid in your money about $400 for his wiper linkage for his Ford SUV!!!!!!!

Well, for all I know the Honda dealers over here might do the same thing...?

Part finally arrived. Took it to my local mechanic to have it fitted. Bit of a problem, the item that I was given was for left hand drive!!!! Probably the exact same part that your Accords use. Back to the dealership and demand that they send out another one.

Btw its only actually the arms that have gone (parts 9 and 10 of your schematic). You can order these as a seperate part although none were showing in the stocklist. They are identical for both LHD and RHD versions. So if the said dealership won't deliver, may well be getting an american friend to forward the bits to me.

A nylon ball joint on one of those rods broke on my 5th gen. I just replaced both rods. Looking at one of the discount online Honda parts websites, it looks like both of those rods run about US$20 each for US 6th gen cars. IDK if RHD cars use the same part numbers. Any Honda dealers selling discount parts online in the UK?

I was away for a few days (sorry) & I just saw your PM about those part numbers.

#9 = "Rod unit A" = 76540-S84-A01
#10 = "Rod unit B" = 76550-S84-A01

Discount mail-order places seem to want about US$16 each, while "list price" at a dealer is about $20. Mail-order, your friend has to pay shipping to his home so a local dealer might be about the same price.
