1st car less than a yr owner
Hi,
I live around North NJ area. just wondering how much is the average price mechanics charge an hour for labor around here. Had my car for less than a year been taking it to one mechanic who charges me for 85$ an hour for labor, is that decent?
I recently had my car's alternator belt and power steering belt done. He charged me 90$ 50 for the belts and 40$ for the labor. is that ok? or is it time for me to look elsewhere. He seemed like a straight up guy and shows me the part that he replaced after the work is done.
Its my 1st car (98 accord LX 4cy), joined the forum to learn more specially on the maintenance part. it's nice to have forums like this, was able to replace the heater hose of the car by myself and a friend because of the forum.
thanks!

$85/hr don't sound to bad for shop rate, my shop labor rate is $85/hr in MA which is average from all shops around us. Usually the shop will charge you for the part as a "list price" but they can get it cheaper, and most of the shop will charge you an hour of labor for the 50 minutes job.

sorry for posting this in the wrong section.
thanks piggy for the response. does that mean dealers mechanic would charge more? i never weant to a dealer fearing the stories that i hear how they charge and try to milk out the customers.
