does anyone use synthetics? I'm new to Honda, recentley purchased an old one. I've always used high quality synthetic in my VW TDI. We get 10,000 miles before any loss of oil performance.
Here is what Honda Owner Link says about synthetic motor oil:
What about synthetic motor oils?

You may use a synthetic motor oil if it meets the same requirements listed above. That is, it must display the Starburst symbol, and match the weight grade recommended in your owner's manual.

When using synthetic oil, you must follow the oil and filter change intervals given in the maintenance schedule.

this is no mystery, oil can be tested for it's lubrication properties. Does the approved motor oil actually fail before 5 or 6k miles of heavy service?

The 7th generation models prior to the oil life monitor said to leave the break in oil untill 5000 miles. I changed mine to Mobil 1 0W20 (SL) around 3200 and never looked back. I change at 7500 mile intervals and no visible usage at all.
