Default 2.7 ignition control module the same as the 2.2?

I am pretty sure the Ignition Control Module is failing on my 1997 Accord 2.7 V6. This car has 270K on it so i don't want to spend a lot of money on fixing it. I have been looking up ICM's on parts sites and they range anywhere from $10 on ebay to $150 at autozone.

The problem is that the ICM for the V6 is hard to find but it looks identical to the 4 cyl ICM's. So curiosity got the best of me and i looked up part numbers for both the 4cyl and 6 cyl and most of the time they match including Honda OEM part numbers.

So i guess that means that if i order a ICM listed for a 4cyl it should work on my V6?

anyone?

I know you get what you pay for but the $15 ICM's on ebay are claiming a 15 year warranty and thats way longer than this car will last.

You can look up the OEM part number for your vehicle on hondapartsnow.com. You can click on the part number and it lists the vehicles that also use the same part.

Looks like the V6 accords use a different part number compared to the 4-cylinder engines. There are also some other hondas (odyessy, etc) that use the same igniter.

If you search for the part number, it will list vehicles that use that part.

I looked up a LX V6 ignitor, so I was getting different results.

oh, well i didn't trust the chinese $15 ICM's so i bought a used Hitachi for $15 off ebay instead. I was a little worried about it at first but everything im seeing seems to show them all using the same ICM's. I keep reading about the 4cyls using a heat sink and using thermal paste ect... well the 6 cyl don't use a "heat sink". I think that the "heat sink" on the 4cyl's main job is a mounting bracket and they thought since it was aluminum it could double as a heat sink. because it's non existent on the 6 cyl it just slides into a pocket and held in with 2 screws from the side and not from the top.

My 95 EX ICM really didn't have a heat sink. I think the 90-93 accords had them.
