2000 Accord EX randomly shuts off/won't restart
hi everyone. New to the forum.
my 4 cylinder 2000 accord ex is having an issue where it will start up, run for a while, (say when warming up on a cold morning) then shut off randomly.
it is very hard to get restarted. This has happened about a dozen+ times over the course of about a year.
the mechanics of course cannot replicate the issue.
We have spent about $450 dollars replacing the knock sensor and most recently (last month) the VTEC solenoid.
The problem is still happening. It left my 17 year old stuck in the school parking lot this afternoon again
Has anyone out there had this issue before and if so how was it remedied?
Thanks in advance!

We can assume there are not any codes stored because of this issue......
Testing will be needed "when it acts up".
There are a number of things that could cause this and just throwing parts/money at it is not going to make anyone happy.
Me, I'd get a cheap/simple spark tester and have it in the car along with a test light/volt meter.
My guess, replace nothing on a guess, is it is the ICM, Electrical part of the ign switch or possibly the main relay.........(also get into a habit of listing for the fuel pump to prime when it acts up - and or watch the CEL light to see if it comes on and goes off like it should).

Thanks for the fast response!
Youre correct. We brought it to Autozone to check the codes when the check engine light came on. It gave a General error code they said. Took it to the shop a couple of times, same thing with the codes. First time they tied the knock sensor. Didn't fix it, then the VTECH solenoid. I'll give this a try.

The techauto site is dead; but, some pages were preserved by people adding it to the Wayback Machine. Google "Wayback Machine" for the link to the internet archive.
See Section 2 for the symptoms - visual troubleshooting, so next time it happens, see what symptoms exist which may clue you in on the cause.

I gained access to the wiring right at the fuel pump; then jumped in two wires right into the wiring at the FP. Ran the wires up to the dash and added an indicator light. This was the only way I could be 100% certain my problem was something other than +12v/ ground to the FP.
Low cost, pretty easy, and it will rule out several power-to-FP issues.
