Sometimes it wil fade away with static. the little st light flasheswhen its not working. do i need to replace the whole radio? or check the fuses? if so does anyone know any basic sites i can learn how to do this on?

Sounds like a loose wire connection somewhere. If all speakers fade, then it is most likely in the back of the deck. Pull your deck out, and double check the connection, make sure it is plugged in all the way.

Also could be internal.....is it a stock radio?

Cheapest fix is a used replacement part. Check car-part.com.
