Default 2000 Accord guages going crazy

My gauges and radio started coming and going recently.

- There is no check engine light on, however the battery, all door and trunk lid lights are on and the brake lamps light is also on.

- The car starts and runs normally. The gauges and radio are the only issues that I've noticed so far. All lights, windows, etc work as normal.

- The gauges and radio seem to work in two scenarios:
1. They will work when the blower fan is on position 4 (highest setting) AND the accelerator is being pressed.
2. The gauges and radio will work when the blower fan is OFF and the brake is being pressed.

The gauges and radio will come on when either of the two above scenarios is true and then will go back down (as if car is turned off) when either condition is not met.

Anyone seen this before? Any good places to start trouble shooting?

Thanks

Get your charging system checked. It may be the alternator. Most auto parts stores will check it for free.

I have a tester and will test it at lunch. I know the battery light is on but charging system is not my first guess. It's easy to check for sure and I'll rule it out but I'm thinking relay, maybe mutilplex control unit, or ignition switch?

Jam,

I'm with redbull, Alternator was my first guess. When it starts going it does weird things with our cars.

The multiplex would be my next stop if the alternator is ok.

The ignition switch and relay would not cause this.

Thanks guys. The altenator tested bad. Luckily the one i bought from Napa 5 years ago has a lifetime warranty. They had to order it but I got it and put it on yesterday. Problem solved. New alternator is charging. Thanks
