2000 Honda Accord

Default 2000 Honda Accord

Hi I'm new to this forum i have a 2000 haonda accord and i have the engine light on and my ob2 reader says its p1456 Evap emmission control system leak detected (fuel tank sysytem) what does this mean, and how can I fiox it ?

That code means your gas tank isn't airtight like it's supposed to be. Most common reason for it is a loose gas cap. Check that first since it's easy to check.

Less common, but other things that can set off that code...
- bad gasket on the gas cap
- several vacuum hoses attached to the fuel tank, including vents alongside the fill pipe
- leak at the flange plate bolted to the gas tank (fuel pump mounting)
- leak (crack) in the actual fuel tank itself
- problem with the fuel tank pressure sensor

I'll move this to General Tech, since thats a better place for it.

If you don't tighten your gas cap to at least 3 clicks, the CEL will come on after a while. Make sure the gas cap is tightened to at least 3 clicks, then reset the ECU. if the CEL comes back on, you got a problem - likely somewhere JimBlake suggested above.
