2000 honda accord ex 5spd mayor transmission issues!
So I posted here a few months back when I had to swap the engine on my accord because of random misfire and got some great help (I remember a member by the name of texashonda helping me out a lot) and all was great with the car put in over 8k since then (and 900$ later) until yesterday my transmission went completely bad . I mean we're it was clunking and clunking to the point where it left me stranded on a stop sign and wouldn't go into gear at all . When I got it into gear it wouldn't move at all and when I pulled it home(was A mile away it was clunking and clunking even if it was in neutral) .. We'll i am going to swap the tranny now .. I spent 2500 for the car and 900 for the swap so I might as well just do the transmission I really like the car only 118k on the body and the engine had just 500 less than my chassis when I swapped it .. I'm just wondering what could have went wrong??? It starting making a whistling noise and was REALLY hard to get into 5th .. Reverse would clunk but all other ears were fine until Saturday .. Is it worth replacing in your opinion as we'll?? And finally what other service should I do while I swap the transmission?? And on the transmission I plan to swap?? Thank you all for your help I know this is long but I also needed to vent I'm really upset I'm stuck driving our family safari van with no AC and it's 104' f

My 5 spd trannies have been strong in all cars, but I've changed tranny fluid every ~30,000 miles (probably early in some people's book).
So when you get your new tranny installed, change the fluid in the first month of service. And never put in a gear oil that is rated GL-5.
Note that Honda sells their own brand of manual transmission fluid which is currently in my '92 5 spd and works fine in my climate.
Ask your local Honda dealer what fluid they use when servicing 5 spd trannies.

Was it an all of a sudden thing? There were no symptoms leading up to it?
Very rare for a transmission to just go bad all of a sudden. Also 5speed honda transmissions are usually pretty reliable and should be good for way more than 118k miles.
Are you sure it was actually in neutral and not still in a gear? I would want to make sure the shift linkage is not the issue before pulling the transmission.
You can see where it attaches on the transmission, have someone try and shift the car while you watch it, see if its actually moving.

Actually there were symptoms . My tranny would make a bell sound when it was in neutral and stop when I engaged the clutch (iwas told it was the throw out bearing) and also it sounded like it was moving from the inside wen the clutch wasn't engaged .. I was actually driving 30 miles away to school when I was on the freeway and the car just kicked on me (felt like a auto tranny that is going bad) then it just started making a growling sound as I drove , after that It became very hard to put into gear .. Also before this happens when I would be on gear in the freeway it had a very low whistle that was. Noticeable if I had the ac off and windows up(quite cabin) .. Now when it mest up on Sunday it sounded like rubber was hitting or something sounds like peaches of metal we're being thrown around inside the transmission
Long story short, she'd had a friend replace the clutch a few thousand miles before and the friend most likely didn't finish bolting the tranny to the bell houing properly. Things worked loose, and by the time I got my hands on it, the transmission was toast.
The only other manual transmission issues I've ever encountered (at least on cars which were basically stock) was a blown synchro gear.
A long time ago (like 1978) a lady friend of mine brought me her 1970 Dodge Challenger with a grinding (and leaking) manual transmission. Up until that time I'd never seen a manual tranny fail, and was highly suspicious something else was wrong. Sure enough, when I got the thing up on ramps I could see that the transmission had come loose from the bell housing, only one (loose) bolt of the four was still holding the assembly together (sort of) with the front of the transmission being primarily supported by the input shaft.

You won't know for sure until you get it up on a lift and have a look-see, but it might be a good working theory.
Yeah I'm going to buy a transmission tomorrow sucks I work 8-5 same hours as dismantlers so it's hard to go pick one up hopefully someone can do it for me tomorrow .. This car better last me until 200k! Haha..
