Default 2000 Honda manual 6 cyl pops out of gear

A friend says he was driving to school and was at a stop sign. He put it in first and started to move, then the shift stick popped out of gear.

He tried to put it back in first and it acted like it was in neutral and was chattering. He was able to shift to 2nd and drive on to school.

Is is a synchronizer, clutch, or something else? I don't think we can take it apart, so is it safe to try driving to a transmission place and have them look at it? or will driving it do more damage?

Ummm, something ain't right about your post. To the best of my knowledge, Honda didn't produce any 6-cylinder Accords with a manual transmission back in 2000 (although I believe the Acura brand sold a few V6 manual models that year).

Ahhh, got it.

Have him try this; while at a full stop, shift into second gear, and then without engaging the clutch, immediately shift into either first or reverse. If that works, then I'm going to lean toward thinking the clutch is a goner.

OK will tell him.

And looking for an opinion, should he take it to AAmaco or Honda dealer? I think Ammaco may be cheaper. What do you guys think?

For a car with a manual transmission I wouldn't use either; I'd look for a good indy mechanic (or do it myself).

Took a look at it, the gears are bad in first... He took it to the shop.
