Default 2002 Accord Oil Loss

I have a 2002 Accord EX coupe that is using oil. It doesn't leak, and as far as I know it doesn't burn it either.

I have a 140 mile round trip to work, most of it at 80 mph or so. Last week, I encountered a pretty abrupt deceleration and subsequent surge, happening several times. It also brought a CEL along with it. To make a long story short, my scanner gave me a code of P1259, VTEC failure, After reading up on, I checked the oil level. Sure enough, not showing on the stick. I added at least 3 quarts and it hasn't happened again.

However, I've had to add another 5 qts or so, over about 750 miles. I've been under the car, the only wet area is from what I believe is a shifter linkage seal. This car is new to me, about two weeks now. It has 108000 miles, standard transmission.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Bob

Moved your post to a new thread, since you problem may be different. Plus having two problems on one thread can be confusing.

Your oil loss is excessive. Check your oil level frequently and keep 5 quarts in your trunk.

Your oil has to go somewhere. It is either leaking, or being burned.

Was there any recent work on this car?

You are going to have to look very carefully for a leak. Around the timing cover, by the oil filter, pretty much everywhere. One trick I read is to clean all the grime off the block. Then spray with athlete's foot powder. Drive the car then look for stains to help you out.
