Hello fellow Honda enthusiasts, I have a concern regarding a vehicle I have not purchased but am getting ready to. The vehicle I'm purchasing is a 2002 Honda Accord Coupe EX V6 with 255,000 miles on it. I know, it has alot of miles. I've already test drove it and it runs good. The current owners says they are mostly Highway miles and its in stock condition. He wants $1500 for it. After doing some research, I found out these cars are prone to transmission failure. Any body with a suggestion to what I should do would be helpful. should I stay away from the vehicle? or should I purchase it for $1500 and take a risk?

 

All good questions - but look at it this way: at this mileage it's a gamble any way you look at it. You could look at the price for a tranny replacement, say $1K and figure that into the price, it's still a good deal. But you may be looking at the engine as well - who knows?
So I'd look into these unknowns and take it in for a full inspection - engine compression, leaks, fuel pressure, noises, drive shafts, tranny fluid - all big items. That if you really like this car.
