2003 Accord oil consumption
Why are these vehicles having excessive oil consumption? In looking up similar cases it is mostly 2003 Accords.
My Accord with the oil being toped off two days (about 60 miles) earlier went through three quarts and took out the hydraulic timing chain slack adjuster without any smoke or oil light coming on and destroyed the motor. The dealership says there are no signs of an oil leak and without smoke where did it go. It was going through about one quart every 1500 miles which doesn’t fit Honda’s one per 1000 miles that they require to classify as a problem. It just turned 100,000. I don’t think it will help but I am going to try to get some help from Honda. I had a friend with a Toyota that the oil turned to jell and destroyed his motor. I was able to get him information to present to Toyota and got the engine warranted at 100,000 plus as it was a common problem on his model.

Sorry to hear about your vehicle.
Sounds like timing chain probabaly came loose after tensioner failed. It shouldn't happen and hopefully firm, persistent inquiries w/ Honda will get some help.
good luck

I talked to Honda and she said she has had a handful of cars that lose significant oil without any source of loss and gave me a case number and said someone will follow up with me after the holiday. Some people believe the oil loss is from the Vtec system, and it did flash the code for the cam timing sensor just before it blew up.

RE: 2003 Accord oil consumption
i have issues with oil consumption as well. My car is at 110,000 KMs. I'm going through 1litre of oil every 1000KM. Honda said they didn't see any leaks and suggested I do the consumption test. According to the instructions they gave me, they said that 1litre for every 1500KM is considered "acceptable" Obviously I'm not even near that, but it sucks that this started happened right after my extended warranty ran out. I've already read of some other 2003 accord owners having similar issues. This is concerning!! I'm contemplating selling my car because of this, because something is definately wrong as I never ran out of oil between scheduled maintenance intervals. I dont' see any smoke from my exhaust either.

Have you had anyone drive behind you while you floor the engine after fully warming engine? Oil bypassing rings will usually show up under this condition.
Oil can be consumed by a faulty PCV system. Blockage in PCV hose or PCV valve causing excess crankcase pressure and oil vapor to flow into engine air intake and be consumed. Pull off air intake duct and look for extreme oily/dirty interior and perhaps loose oil to some extent. Easy fix if this is the problem; new PCV valve and hose as indicated.
Oil bypassing the valve stem seals may cause oil smoke after an extended idle w/ fully warm engine, or on acceleration after a prolonged idle at stop.
Other than leaks, above are only way to consume oil that I know.
good luck

Excessive smoke on DEceleration also can be valve stem seals. Deceleration & engine-braking is when the manifold vacuum is strongest, pulling more oil down thru the valve stems.
