2004 Accord transmission issues
2004 Accord EX V6, 226k miles. Transmission is a Jasper factory rebuild dropped in by a shop when the original one died at about 144k miles. Last transmission fluid change was at around 205k miles which also included a bottle of Lucas anti slip. So at around 200k miles, sometimes, but never consistently, at low speed (around 10-15 mph) I’d hear a light clicking noise from the tranny when coasting and hesitancy to downshift. Would always happen for about 2-3 seconds then the downshift would happen. Only when coasting. Now at 226k miles the D light on the instrument cluster starts blinking after driving for a few minutes. Gets reset and starts blinking again after car stops. Checked with OBD2 scanner, no transmission codes in there only some O2 sensor codes which have been there forever. The D light just started flashing today, haven’t driven it much like that but it seems fine so far, not in limp mode. I haven’t changed the fluid again since 205k because if there is loose stuff in there I’m afraid clean fluid may kill the transmission. Fluid level is about halfway up the dipstick area and does not smell burnt. Any idea what the problem may be or how to diagnose it? Or more importantly, anything I can do about it without removing the transmission and getting a new one? Not worth to do that in a 226k mile car, I’ll just send it to the junk yard. I figure my options are change the fluid, or just put some more Lucas in there…. I don’t think the fluid is leaking but I’ve had leaky power steering fluid for like 100k Miles so the entire bottom of the car is a huge mess so no way to tell really…. Thoughts of anything I can do to get a bit more out of this car? Thanks
Update: I drove the car for about another 10 miles, shifts fine no issue. I manually checked N, D, D3, 2, and 1 on the transmission and each shifted as it should when manually prompted... but the flashing D is still there with no diagnostic code! I'm kinda stumped....
