2004 Accord V6 3.0L automatic transmission filter?
I have seen conflicting information with regard to there being a serviceable transmission filter. I'm trying to get a definitive answer. If you can purchase a transmission filter for this model how do you know which is the correct one? And is the filter accessible without disassembling the transmission? I'm so confused and need answers please!

The filter on a V6 is in the transmission case, see attached image. The dealer normally does not consider this a normal service item.
If you decide to replace the filter, you may want to stick with the Honda OEM filter. List price is only $24.17 and sometimes it can be purchased for less through Honda estore for local dealer pickup. You don't want a cheap knock-off filter media breaking up in the transmission.

I replaced the filter a couple times on my 03 V6. The filter was pretty disgusting, so I was glad I did. How dark is the fluid? Lots of stuff on the drain plug magnet? If so I would change it. The filter was cheap online, and I did the drain and fill plus filter myself.
PS: Neither of those filters look correct to me. I would get the filter from a dealership, and make sure you get the one for the V6 automatic. The one in the metal case is for the I4 engine.

I appreciate both your input so much! The trans fluid is really dark and gross. I guess I'll leave it up to the guy that works on my car to decide if he wants to change the filter. My thoughts are that he will.
Again, thank you!
