It's the contacts on the switches. I took out the light assembly and popped both of the map light switches then I roughed up and bent the leads that the switches connect to. Works perfectly now both sides. Just gets a little oxidized.

only my passenger one comes on when i open the door...evidently my car thinks i don't needs any illumination to get in or out.
