2005 Honda Accord Hybrid IMA battery warranty in New Jersey
For the last 1-2 months I started getting the IMA light and check engine light on my 05' hybrid that indicates high/low voltage at the hybrid battery. This happens almost every time the temp outside is below freezing. To be honest I started noticing that the IMA battery performance was way down since last year (mostly in cold days) but didn't pay too much attention since I drive the car for very short trips to the train station (4 - 5k miles annually). After talking to a friend a few days ago he mentioned that NJ had adopted the stricter CA emissions rules that also cover the hybrid batteries up to 10 years/ 150k miles. My car currently is hitting 9 years in April 2014 and has about 62k miles with 30 k since 2007. Does anyone know if my IMA battery will be covered by the extended warranty? Does this warranty cover only newer vehicles or it should also cover mine? What is the best approach for this going directly to the dealer or reaching directly to Honda. Thanks and happy new year to everyone.
In my experience, the direct approach is first way. Go directly to Honda Service outlet and see if warranty coverage is applicable. Check your glove box info also.
There is a section on "Customer Satisfaction" in some Acura manuals I have that defines recommended sequence of actions to follow. First is your dealer service.
good luck

Many people misinterpret Honda's 2005 IMA battery warranty due to the way they kind of wrote it:
Honda Press Releases - 2005 Honda Warranty Information - September 01, 2004
Technically, Honda's battery warranty is like this:
The IMA battery warranty for the 2005 Accord Hybrid was 8 years/80,000 miles, any U.S. state.
The extended IMA warranty for AT-PZEV (CA, NY, ME, VT, MA) was 10 years/150,000 miles. 2005 Civic Hybrid models distributed in California, New York, Vermont, Maine and Massachusetts meet Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emission Vehicle (AT-PZEV) standards.
2005 Honda Accord models (LX and EX Sedan with 4-cylinder engine and automatic transmission) distributed in California, New York, Vermont, Maine and Massachusetts meet Partial Zero Emission Vehicle (PZEV) standards. AT-PZEV was not the same as PZEV.
American Honda will typically only provide IMA battery coverage for the 2005 Accord Hybrid at 8 years/80,000 miles. Doesn't mean you can't try to get them to provide the extended coverage.
