I'm having a similar problem and just posted a new thread about it titled "2005 Accord Dome/Spot/Map light issue"
I have already tried the solution RedBull recommended here but would love to hear his opinion on my situation or whether this issue was ever resolved and how. Sounds like our original symptoms were exactly the same. When I replaced the "base" it caused neither one of them to work when pressed but both to work when the door is opened.
