Default 87 Accord hazard and turn signal fault

Hi All,

Luckily I was gifted a 87 Accord. Unluckily, the hazard and turn signals stopped working the first time out. My suspicion is that when I un-gunked the hazard switch on the steering column, it caused a fault.

Using this diagram http://www.autofuseboxdiagram.com/4344-1987-honda-accord-lx-dash-fuse-box-diagram/

I've checked the fuses and nothing is blown.

What would the next logical thing to look at? I see there is a relay however its on the back of the panel and my guess would the hazard switch is the issue given the build up around the switch.

Anyway, any thoughts on what to do to isolate the problem?

Were they working at any point? What was involve when you "un-gunked" the switch.

Either way I'd look at local bone yards for a new(er) relay and switch and see what you have from there.

If you want to do some testing let me know and I can dust off the service manual and give some testing procedures.

Hi,

Thanks for the offer. I took the steering column housing off and gently cleaned the hazard switch. They started working again. It must be a temperamental/ dirty connection at the hazard. I believe the turning lights and hazard are on the same circuit.

Are you referring to a Haynes manual? Do you have a digital copy? I haven been able to find an online version. Note, I did find the Honda workshop manual which is good. I just remember the Haynes had additional info.

Thanks,

Gary

A Haynes manual is basic compared to the shop manual. If you can get a copy of the Hondanservice manual and get a copy of the ETM manual you will have pretty much all you need. The ETM has all the details of the wiring and wiring connections wher as the shop manual is for diagnostics and repairs.
