Default 90 Accord - Fuel Gauge Problem

First post ever...

I have a 90 Accord DX with a fuel gauge problem. I have performed the basic testing and am still stumped. I pulled the fuel sending unit and tested it -- the ohms range from 3 to 110 when moving the float up and down, this appears to be correct. With the fuel sending unit disconnected, the fuel gauge goes to zero, which also appears correct. When shorting the circuit at the fuel sending unit connection, the gauge slowly rises to half full then stops. When plugging in the fuel sending unit (outside the tank) and moving the float from low to high, the gauge responds by going from empty to half full. So, everything appears to be working, but the gauge never goes above half.

Any ideas of what could be causing this? Is there a way to test the gauge more directly under the dash?

Thanks!

This sounds like a problem with the gauge in the dash. You can pull the cluster. The cluster comes apart and you can inspect the fuel gauge.

I would look for bad solder joints on the circuit board of the fuel gauge. Also look for corrosion where the gauge makes electrical contact with the cluster circuit board.

Thanks PAhonda, I'll pull the cluster and see what I find. Thanks for giving advice on what to look for.
