If it was my car I'd wire them into the car rather than use the cig.lighter.

Well, are they LEDs? If so, you might want to find a wire that doesn't get dimmed. Parking-lights power??

yes they are LED

I am worried that the lights might be to bright if i don't wire it in to the dimmer

Is there a website that can show me the basics of wiring this kind of stuff?

Seems to me LEDs don't behave well with a dimmer. Try it & see?

I wasn't sure if all your dimmable lights went off or only a few of them?
If its all of them then your dimmer switch needs some resoldering. I used to whack the top of my dash when they went out too. I just found some pics of my switch, if this is your problem then resolder the 3 joints supporting the dimmer **** or any solder that looks suspect.
can't remember which 3 but probably the ones on the right, you'll see if you take it out and apart.
let me know if you need more pics.
I hate to think about the ecm & tcm solders

sorry, can't tell from pics what the exact problem is. you'll have to diagnose it. try tapping the dimmer switch, if it goes on and off by doing that then its probably the problem.
