Question 91 Accord EX (f22a1?)

Hi!

I have a 91 accord ex with what i think is an f22 a1 engine int (whatever the stock engine is)

I would really like to know if it is a 0 clearance engine? If the timing belt goes will i be screwed?

the mechanic said to replace it at 322000 miles and its at 321000 right now. I am a broke college kid and i will most likely not be able to get it done on time.

thanks for the help

Your engine is an interference engine. If the timing belt breaks, then valve damage will likely occur.

I would call around to get quotes from reputable shops to see what this will cost.

Do you know when the belt was last replaced. Tell us the mileage and the date it was done.

i cant remember but the mechanic i called and said to replace it at 322000 miles was the one who did the belt on it in the first place. He pulled up the service record but i cant remember everything exactly

The belt should be good for 90K miles or 7 years, whichever comes first. Some mechanics subscribe to 60K miles interval (guess why!), but there is no reason to change before manufacturer recommended intervals.

good luck
