91 lx - sloooowww take-off
i have a 91 accord lx 4-door. its totally stock except for a cold air intake.
the problem with it is that when i take off, its really slow. it doesnt want to climp rpm's very well at all. but once it gets to 2500-3000+ rpm, it runs strong. it does this no matter the speed. if the rpms are low, it loses power. i have to keep it over 70mph to climp the bigger/longer hills on the highway, or downshift. now, when its running weak, it does not miss any. the check engine light is not on..ever. it idles fine too.
i have put new plugs and wires on it. new ignition contorl module. so, i dont know what the deal is. the exhaust is pretty rough...has leaks behind the cat (around the rear wheel area). i was thinking that the cat could be clogged. or maybe something with the egr or vacuum.
basically, i have some ideas that i can check in to. but i was wondering if this is a common problem, or if someone else has dealt with it and knows a definate fix.
i also have an oil leak from somewere...on the exhaust side of the engine. its getting pretty bad. are there any common problems that cause oil leaks that i could look into?
thanks for any help

90-93 accords, f22a engines, lag in power until 2500-3000 rpm. that's when they start entering thier power bands
[*]Max power:
[ul][*]F22A1: 125 hp (93 kW) @ 5200 rpm[*]F22A4: 130 hp (97 kW) @ 5200 rpm[*]F22A6: 140 hp (104 kW) @ 5600 rpm [/ul][*]Max torque:
[ul][*]F22A1: 137 ft·lbf (186 Nm) @ 4000 rpm[*]F22A4: 142 ft·lbf (193 Nm) @ 4000 rpm[*]F22A6: 142 ft·lbf (193 Nm) @ 4500 rpm[/ul]
as for the oil leak, you may need a new gasket for the oil pan.

i know the f22a's tend to lag somewhat on the bottom end of the tach (esp since its an automatic). but this is more than the normal lack-of-power lag.
i forgot to mention it earlier. but lets say you take off from a dead stop, on flat ground. when i give gas, it goes. but there is very little power. if you give it more gas, the engine sounds louder, but not like its winding up. it more like a loud bogging sound. its doesnt miss tho. so basically, you can barely give it gas or give it a lot, but it takes off the same...slow and with little power. actually, the more gas you give it, the less power it has... and the bogging sound gets louder. but once i get it up to around 3000rpm, it runs/sounds normal.
the oil is leaking from somewere higher on the engine than the oil pan gasket.
anyone have any other ideas?
