'92 accord auto transmission
I have a problem with a 92 accord with 207K on the odometer. A few days it started to not shift into the top gear. The acceleration and power from a standing start has also taken a hit. Basically the car is only good for trips in town or to the train station. The speed is limited to 35-40 before the revs, get too high. There is one curious clue which hints that the problem is electrical problem and not a dead transmission. The gear indicator on the instrument panel always displays the D4 along with whatever gear the lever is placed in.
Well what do you guys think? Is there a chance this is an easy fix, or is the trans. toast?

Check for any codes stored as suggested by PoorMan.
Afterwards, suggest pulling backup fuse (7.5A under hood fuse box) and see if symptoms temporarily improve. If yes, this may be an indication of faulty ECU. I have a TSB which applies to 90 Accord, but probably is applicable to later models also. If you want a copy, PM your email address and I'll forward.
good luck

Thanks for the tips.
Can you direct me to the procedure for checking the codes. I've done it on other cars, but not this one yet. Where can I find a key to the meaning of the codes?
I have a spare ECU from our other 92 Accord. but its a 5 speed, so will it work in an automatic?

The ECU and TCU are separate. I should have said TCU in my first email. In my experience, you should find an exact replacement. Ebay usually has them at reasonable prices.
Go to DIY forum and search. TCU codes are flashes of D4 or S light (if yours has this) w/ long flash (F) =10 and short flash (f) =1. So code 14 is F-ffff, w/ only short pauses between flashes. If there is more than one code, they are separated by a long (3-5 sec) pause.
Meaning of codes can be obtained online (google) or download a manual (DIY forum, Online Manuals post).

Or post the code here, because usually someone will have better information than just the simple title of the error message.
How many times have we seen someone throw the "EGR low flow" code, replaced the EGR valve, then posted here when that didnt' fix it. When they really should have cleaned out the EGR passageways & instead of buying any parts.
