92 Accord transmission issue
My 92 accord lx automatic has recently started giving me a heck of a time. Its been a very good car, but the past few months the "D4" light on the gearshift indicator stays lit on my dash regardless of what gear Im in, and in addition I now have to manually downshift to 1 in order to take off from a stop. I then can shift to 2nd but nothing seems to happen, I then shift to 3rd to drive at highway speeds, while shifting into 4th seems to make no difference. Ive seen a few other questions around the internet describing in detail the EXACT same symptoms my car has, yet I havent had any luck finding out a solution to the problem. Is this something I can fix myself? Id sure like to try if at all possible. Any help with this issue from you guys IS EXTREMELY APPRECIATED!!!!! THANKS!!!

Unfortunately, I'm not much of an auto-tranny guru. But also look for instructions about jumpering the SCS connector to read ECU error codes. Since your tranny is throwing a code, watch for the D4 lamp to flash instead. The tranny has its own set of error codes, but you display them the same way.

If you do not find any codes,(and i dont think you will) id change the transmission computer, you can buy these rebuilt on ebay for 140.00 or junk yard for as low as 60.00, be sure to get one from a 92 LX and dont let em tell you they are all the same, They are not, 92 and three should be the same , DX and LX should be the same, EX and SE are not the same as LX and DX , these all look the same if you find one with 721 or 722 it will work, thransmission computer is located under the carpet on right side of car, pull carpet back, tcu is the samller of the two computers. un bolt and pull plug no big deal . i have owed 4 of these cars had this problem with three of them, id give it a shot.

one more thing i forgot to mention, you should be able to disconnect the Batt for a few seconds then reconnect and that will probly return everything to normal, however the problem will most likely return, its just a temp fix and may not work
