Hi,

The AT cooler hoses go, of course, from the tranny to radiator. One of the hoses (the one going to the drivers-side radiator connection) has what looks like a one-way valve built into the part of the "hose" which is steel tube.

Anyway, is it a one-way valve, or something else? Maybe a temperature-dependent valve? Maybe...?

If you are referring to #14 in the attached pic, it's just an oil cooler hose pipe.

Thanks Redbull. I have seen that diagram...the thing I am wondering about is where #14 is and serves the same purpose. It is just that mine has a part half-way-down that steel tube. Like I said, it looks like a valve of some sort. It also kind of looks like a small--maybe 1" diameter--steel in-line filter. It is clearly OEM and has not been added.

I've tried to post a pic. In the pic I am not pointing at the part I'm talking about. The part is between the rubber hose and the steel tube...it is hidden by the steel bracket. It is probably sold as part of the tube assembly...but something is going on there other than just the normal steel tube carrying ATF.

I would just like to know what it does. I was having leaking ATF problems after a new radiator. Now it seems OK, but if the part is a temperature-valve, maybe it is just fixed when I drive short distances.

Anyway, I would like to know what it does.

Looks kind of like a filter. I don't see it in the service manual or Honda parts listings.

 

Right, I agree that is what it looks like. It seems that if it was a filter they would have made it serviceable.

I still hope someone out there knows.

 

Found a thread regarding the same thing. It probably is an external in-line transmission filter sent by Honda with a re-manufactured transmission. (For some 6th gen Accords, Honda also added an in-line filter when they had re-manufactured transmissions installed.)

Although not exactly the same as the Honda one, Rock Auto and Amazon sells an aftermarket WIX in-line filter.

Gee, thanks Redbull. It does have a reman tranny.

I will admit an external filter is a great idea, but one plumbed so as to be nearly non-serviceable...what's up with that? It would have been easy for them to have added a normal in-line filter in the rubber part of the ATF line up by the tranny.
