Unhappy 92 Honda Accord Check Engine Light 9 Flashes

Hi Folks new here and wondering if anyone knows what would cause my 92 Honda Accord Coupe to die all of a sudden and the Check Engine Light to come on ...I managed to get the vehicle started but it sounded and made the entire car vibrate like it was misfiring very very bad ...any how ...I managed to limp the vehicle home ...again dying along the way at least twice ...finally dying as it limped horribly up the drive way ...I've done just about all the repairs myself over the years dealing with just about everything ...just recently replaced the starter ..main relay assembly fuse under the dash ...replaced the Ignition Control Module in the distributor ...spark plugs and wires ..upgraded to a thicker wire set too ...new intake gasket ..was leaking bad which I think caused the starter to go out ..unsure if that was the cause though ...I know how to pull the codes using a jumper wire to the wire on the passenger side kick panel ...and I've replaced the ECU and TCU a few years ago ...and just the other day was going to Autozone to buy some new pads and shoes ...when the vehicle just dies at the light ...upon arriving (limping) home ...went about checking fuses ..under the hood as well as under the driver side dash ...didn't find any blown fuses ...the relay looks fine still ..but not sure if this is the cause ...shorted the wire on the passenger side to pull any codes ...but NOTHING ...only the CEL light ...and it only flashed 9 times over and over ...no other codes from the "D" drive indicator or any other lights ...tried to start it ...which it did ...but only sounded like it was misfiring and choking horribly ...and die ...throwing money out at this car about every month ...should I get rid of it ...or fix it ...is the fix complicated ..or am I just waisting time, effort, and money???

So a code 9 means there is a problem with the #1 cylinder position sensor (CYP sensor) circuit. This means it could be the sensor, the wiring, or the ECU.

You should really do some testing before replacing the distributor housing, because most people would assume the sensor is bad, replace the distributor housing (pretty easy to do), and possibly not solve the problem.

The CYP sensor is inside the distributor. Take a look at the wiring inside the distributor by removing the distributor cap and the electrical connections to the distributor for any obvious signs of damaged pins or corrosion.

The 7-wire connector to the distributor should have 4 wires in one row and 3 in the second row, with a missing slot (X).
The numbering is
1234
X678

The resistance between 4 and 8 should be 700-1300 ohms when unplugged and measuring on the distributor side of the harness.

You have to determine if you should keep fixing the car. Consider the cost of buying a replacement vehicle in your budget vs the time and money to fix your 92 accord with expected and unexpected repairs. When was the timing belt last replaced on this vehicle?

Replaced the timing belt and the front and rear oil seals about 3 years ago ...pulled the engine myself and replaced all the engine and trans mounts ...will check on the CYP sensor ...was reading something about that earlier in this forum...
