93 Accord EGR Problem: Removing Manifold
My 93 Accord is throwing the infamous Code 12: EGR. I went ahead and replaced the valve thinking it would solve the issue. Unfortunately, it did not so I took it to a Honda service center. They told me that the manifold is clogged and needs to be replacedfor a total cost of $1280. Being a broke college student, $1280 is just beyond my means.
This weekend, I'm going to remove the manifold myself and give it a thorough cleaning. Has anybody ever done this? Is it that difficult and how long did the job take from start to finish? Any advice before I take the plunge?
Thanks!

Try this link...Much easier than pulling the manifold

The dealer should have the portplugs in stock.

There may be a tutorial in the FAQ section, you do not need to fully remove the manifold to do this job, if there is no FAQ here, then it is all over the net. Lots of carb cleaner and a stiff wire like a clothes hanger, some guys use an old speedo cable and a drill if that gives you any ideas. You may need to buy these plugs from Honda to plug up the holes that you create to do the cleaning, the tutorial will explain.

First of all, I would call Honda and complain. That shop is trying to rip you off. This is a know problem on Hondas and the manifold does not need to be replaced.
I posted a web link and a pdf on another forum on how to clean the egr ports. The pdf has the procedure for the 93 which is a little bit different than the 94-97.
