Default 93 honda accord lx wont hold a charge

so the other day i was driving my accord from walla walla to lacey in Washington about a 250 mile drive or more and right before i got there my car started dying my lights got dim my speedometer and rpm gauge stopped working then my car started sputering so i had to turn off my lights and all other things that pulled electricity just to keep my car running and that worked for alittle bit but then it started to get worse.so i ended up trying to push through it and see if my alternator could just charge it and it worked i got up to 70 on the free way and all my lights worked and gauges worked untill i had to slow down and shift into fourth, then my car died again so i was pulling over and i shifted down to 3rd and my car made loud clanking sounds and i look in my mirror and all i saw were sparks all over the freeway.

the sparks turned out to be my cat blowing out of my exhaust. then my car was compleatly dead so the next day i got a new battery and my car ran perfectly fine for about 4-5 hours then died agien so i replaced my alternator and now if my car isnt hooked up to another car it just dies and wont start. i really could use any advise at all i need my car working soon and i am not dumping anymore money i dont have into it with out knowing exactly what is wrong with my car

i could really use some help here...

check your alternator fuse.

Also, is the battery light still turning on while driving?

Make sure battery cables are clean and tight.

Check crankshaft pulley ( harmonic balancer) for defects in the rubber sandwich between inner drive and outer pulley. Damage can allow pulley to slip preventing alternator drive. For some reason this does not cause the Alt light to come on, but car will drive until dead.

Check pulley by placing a straight radial mark from bolt to outer pulley w/ white marker paint. If the marks separate circumferentially due to outer pulley slippage, the crankshaft pulley is bad and requires replacement. Replacement requires a powerful air impact or special tools to break the very tight crankshaft pulley bolt.

good luck

Default easier than it seemed.

thanks for all the help guys but it turned out to be really simple when my first battery went out 1i just put in a new one but i still had a bad alternator so i was just running straight off my battery for 5 hours and i compleatly killed it. i took it in to Les S and had them charge my battery, i put it in this morning with my new alternator and my car runs like a champ again...
