Has anyone else experienced exhaust noise at approximately 2800-3000 rpm range. My 94 accord when either accelerating or slowing down through this rpm range makes an unbearable exhaust sound. My solution to date has been to drive at 80 mph so the RPM at 3100 or more so the noise inside the car is bearable.

Any thoughts on what causes this specific exhaust sound?

There was a Service Bulletin about exhaust noise but I'm not 100% sure it fits your problem.
