That is why I asked about the wire color(s) going to the sensor to see which one is leaking.

If you can smell the fuel, then check the vacuum hose on the fuel-pressure regulator. If there's any fuel in that hose, your FPR is bad.

Underneath the distributor, two wire connector, #19:



It's easy to check with a meter. If you don't have a meter, Harbor Freight sells one for $5:
