94 Accord Speedometer Problems
I know this is a common problem and I've read multiple threads about the issue but none of them have solved my problem. So a couple months ago the speedometer started working sporadically, it would just sit at zero sometimes and it would work some times. The odometer and trip also didn't work but all other gauges in the cluster were fine. I did a little research and thought it may be a VSS problem, so I replaced it. That didn't fix the problem, as far as I can tell the speedometer does not work at all any more. After doing a little more research I learned that I could test the VSS by trying the cruse control so I did and the cruse control works, so no VSS problem then right? Plus I don't have a CEL showing. Then I focused on the speedometer itself, called around the area (Seattle) and found a shop that would repair the cluster for $180. I thought that was a little pricey so instead I just bought a used cluster off ebay for $80. I know it's always a risky buying used parts but I was planning on selling the car so I thought I could save $100. Anyway, the part came and I installed it. Well now the damn thing just sits at 20 mph and the odometer and trip still don't work. I'm wondering if maybe I just got a bad used part or maybe there's some sort of wiring or connection issue. I'm about at the end of my car repair abilities here and I can't understand why this cluster from Ebay would act differently from the old one that I took out. Should I just send the part back and go get the original one fixed? Should I just buy the speedometer part by itself? Anybody have any ideas?
(Let me help you..)

For the odometer problem, try pushing your key in the the maintenance required indicator reset slot several times. On the 94-97 Accords, the odometer is mechanical, so it sometimes gets stuck.

The problem may be your got a bad speedometer circuit or a cluster connection problem. Also, examine the areas where the screws attach the speedometer head to the cluster motherboard.

Is this what you do all day?
Thanks for fixing my abortion of a post, I guess I didn't realize that it's impossible to read and comprehend something without a bunch of blank lines to separate the thoughts.
"See what I did there?"
So lets see you came here for free help, once you get said free help you are selling your car so you will never be back.
You really provide a lot of positives to this board.
I would like to tell you that I hope your car burns to the ground but I cannot as I have been told to 'be nice' to the noobs.
Good luck fixing your car and when you get the info you want (for free from the board) don't let the door hit you too hard on the way out.
You have a great attitude.
